Annette Select 13U A’s Capture OBA Championship
It all came together on Labour Day weekend. Our 13U Select A’s went undefeated through the OBA Provincial Championship in Cobourg and brought home the title.
The double-knockout tournament opened Friday, August 30 against Oshawa. A tight one — Annette took it 5-4. Forest Glade from Windsor was next, and the A’s pitching and defence carried the team to a 6-2 win. That secured a bye into Saturday’s second game against Toronto rivals East York Red, where the bats showed up for a 9-4 result.
Sunday brought the final four: Annette, Brantford, Listowel, and East York Red. In the semi-final against Brantford, the bats came alive again, this time for a 17-6 win over the Red Sox. That set up a championship rematch against East York Red. Annette had already beaten them on Saturday, so one win in the final was all it took. The A’s got it done: 6-1, championship secured.
Head Coach Nhat Le on what made the team special:
“This resilient group of players had seen their fair share of adversities throughout the season. From losing 31-2 in a tournament earlier in the season to illness and injuries, these boys never gave up. For every error made in a game is a lesson learned, and they continued to improve themselves and pushed each other to be better. The comradery between the players is the biggest asset for this team. They support and pick each other up when someone is down. They hold each other accountable to create an impenetrable fortress on defence. Their encouragement and cheering for each other brought out some of the biggest hits at the tournaments, including an out of the park homerun. These players have made all of us proud through their sportsmanship on and off the field, their humility in victories, and most of all their perseverance through difficult times. These are strong ambassadors of the Annette Baseball.”
Congratulations to the players, coaches, team manager, scorekeeper, pitch counter, and all the families. Well-earned championship.
