Umpire Clinic FAQ

Annette Umpire Clinics – Frequently Asked Questions

Please note that to become a certified umpire it is mandatory that you complete an online training module and attend an in person clinic. In-person clinic details are below. For the online training module please go to the Baseball Ontario website and follow the instructions

When will the in person clinic be held in 2024?
The clinic will be held on Sunday, April 28. Registration for the in-person clinic is a two part process:

1) Register for the Annette clinic on the Baseball Ontario website.

2) Submit payment for the Annette clinic through our registration form.

Where is the clinic held exactly?
Runnymede Junior and Senior Public School - in the large gym. 357 Runnymede Rd, Toronto, ON M6S 2Y7.  Enter through the main doors near the basketball courts on the Runnymede Rd. side of the school and go up the stairs to the large gym on the second floor.

What time does the clinic start and what time does it end?

 9:00am - 1:00 pm.
(please arrive at 8:30am to sign in and be ready to start promptly at 9:00am).

What if I want to leave early to go to the Blue Jays game or a birthday party?
You must be at the clinic for the duration of the clinic. Do not leave the clinic early.

What about lunch?
Since the clinic ends at 1:00pm, lunch will not be provided. Please feel free to bring nut-free snacks.

What should I wear?

Running shoes and comfortable/active clothing. No sandals or open toed shoes

I already took Level One last year, how come I have to take it again?
The course material is not the same and it alternates each year. Getting your Level One is considered to be a two-year program, so you must take the Level One course in two consecutive years.

Is there anything I can do to prepare for the course?
Sure, you can read up on the rules of baseball at the Baseball Ontario website.

You can also find various practice tests online, just google “Practice baseball umpire test” and you will find lots of quizzes to test your knowledge of the rules of the game.

Are the Annette House League rules the same as for Baseball Ontario?
There are some differences which take into account that some players are new to the game and, for example, might not know how to slide into home on a close play. Official house league rules are available at the bottom of this page in the Helpful Links section
